Robots in Industry

In recent years the application of robots has been tremendously increased in German, American, and other developed countries. The robots are yet to be introduced in the industries of under developed countries including some Asian countries, where the work is heavily carried in manual way.

The robotics application in industry is successful for the following reasons:

  • Precision: a robot can quickly operate with a great precision of a fraction of a milli-metre.
  • Repeatability: a robot performs the same task over and over again, unlike humans they do not get bored with the same work. Robots, therefore, do not become inaccurate and slow, as a human worker would do in rapid tasks.
  • Robots can easily perform tasks that are too arduous, or much dangerous for humans or human health. For example Fire-fighting work, the disposal of noxious chemicals and bomb disposing, working inside nuclear reactor.
  • Robots are built with a great mechanical strength to lift and manipulate heavy objects, that human cannot do.
  • Robots work very fast, and therefore, are more productive than human workers.
  • Robots are controlled by electronic logic, to perform complex tasks, without failure. Their control circuits are based on microprocessors or microcontrollers.
  • Robots are programmed so that they always do the right thing at the right time.
  • Robots are much more dependable than human labor.
  • No refreshment like human workers at a canteen in the factory for having snacks for their day meal. Robots do not need such a stuff.
  • Human workers coming office on cars need a place for parking. Robots do not need a car park and they stay at factory for the work, they do not get late do not fell ill, but can become obsolete or say in other words they die after a useful life of few years.

The above listed characteristics can also apply to other sorts of robot that includes the humanoid type. Most of the robots, except for the robot arms, has the ability to move from one place to place. The humanoid robots walk on a pair of legs like humans. This is very difficult to achieve because of the need of keeping the robot balanced and upright. Robots cannot easily walk on sough surface as they can easily fall and stumble. Keeping this reason in view, most robots are either fixed (bolted to a firm base) or made to run on wheels.
